Mason City, IA—March 24, 2005 -- Heartland Asphalt, Inc. of Mason City was presented with the 2004 Quality in Construction Award at the 50^th annual National Asphalt Pavement Association Conference Awards Banquet at the Hilton Waikoloa on the Big Island of Hawaii February 15, 2005 for its work on Interstate 35 south of Clear Lake.

The Interstate 35 Resurfacing Project in Cerro Gordo and Franklin Counties was constructed in the fall of 2003 and completed in the summer of 2004, resulting in one of the smoothest interstate routes in Iowa. The National Asphalt Pavement Association presents this award in recognition of excellence in Hot Mix Asphalt Pavements. For fifty years “quality” has been synonymous with Hot Mix Asphalt industry. It continues to be the single most important attribute that the NAPA Awards Program emphasizes. Quality encompasses the commitment on the part of the people to do the best job they can.

The governing agency receiving recognition for this 1^st place winning project was the Iowa Department of Transportation the Resident Construction Engineering Office in Britt, who administered and oversaw project construction

Mason City, IA—July 29, 2005 –The National Asphalt Pavement Association announced that Riverview Plant, Heartland Asphalt, Inc., Mason City, Iowa has earned NAPA’s Diamond Achievement Commendation Award for Excellence in Hot Mix Asphalt Plant/Site Operations for continuing to exemplify the high standards set by the Diamond Award and NAPA . The Commendation is designed to recognize Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) production facilities that operate in an exemplary manner.

The Diamond Achievement Award for Excellence in HMA Plant/Site operations is designed to recognize and encourage responsible practices by plant/site operations and is open to all HMA producers in the United States and its possessions, and in Canada.

“Earning the Diamond Achievement Commendation serves as a signal to neighbors that an HMA facility is a good neighbor,” commented NAPA Chairman Charles Potts. “The process addresses six aspects of the plant/site: appearance, operations, environmental practices, safety, permitting and compliance, and community relations. By earning the Diamond Achievement, Heartland Asphalt, Inc. has shown the community that it will go the extra mile for excellence.” Heartland Asphalt will be recognized at the NAPA annual convention in Hollywood, Florida on January 19, 2006.

Mason City, IA – May 24, 2005 -- Heartland Asphalt, Inc. of Mason City has been awarded the Mason City Municipal Airport Runway 17-35 Rehabilitation Project.

The $4.2 million dollar project is set to begin Wednesday June 1, 2005 and has a construction time schedule of 60 calendar days, with a completion date of August 1, 2005. The project involves reconstructing the south 1200 feet of runway 17-35 and milling off 4” and resurfacing with a 4” asphalt mat the remainder of runway 17-35,

for a total of nearly 48,000 tons of asphalt. Other work to being done under this project include upgrading some of the electrical work and guidance signs.

Heartland Asphalt will be performing the work with the help of 12 different sub-contractors to complete this work on schedule. Mead and Hunt, Inc. of Minneapolis, Minnesota are the engineers on the project.
